Remember Live Aid? I remember seeing Queen, Duran Duran, The Powerstation, and many more. I just wish I had a VCR back then.

I wish I had it on videotape also. Maybe it'll show up on E-bay?
I have mixed feelings about Live Aid because of Simon LeBon's bum note and because it was the last time the Fab 5 performed together before Andy, then Roger left the band.

I remember Live Aid most vividly. I sat in front of the television all day long, inspired by what these musical artists were doing for humanity.
I wonder why they don't do concerts like Live Aid anymore... Or maybe they do and I haven't heard???
A benefit concert along the line of Live Aid would not be possible today, in my opinion. Most of the groups performing today could care less about the less fortunates of the world... which is sad to say... :(

That's too bad. Wouldn't it be cool for a bunch of 80s artists get together now and do something similar? Maybe to raise money for the exploration of petroleum or alternative fuel sources! Newspapers would read: 80s Artists Save World Energy Crisis! :D
It could happen...

Ah, Live Aid. I remember getting up early in the morning to listen to it on the radio, then watching it on TV. At the time my hometown didn't have MTV, so I had to watch the feeds they were showing on the local stations. I have most of the concert on video, and I pop it in my VCR once in a while.
My favorite memory was Queen's performance. Freddie Merucry just blew me away. I was only 12 years old then. I also remember almost passing out when Spandau Ballet came on, because I was a huge fan of theirs. My parents let me stay up until it was over. I would have loved to be at Wembley Stadium, because most of groups that performed there I loved.

LiveAid was quite a concert. I also remember BandAid, which inspired LiveAid. That was Bob Geldof's project. He enlisted the help of Midge Ure of Ultravox and put together a song called "Do they know it's Christmas?" "Feed the World" They used them both.
It was a British thing, with almost everybody who was anyone in British popular music involved. (Paul McCartney couldn't make it, but he phoned in and contributed to the well-wishes on the 12" single. Holly Johnson of FGTH did the same.)
That was, last I checked, the best selling song in the history of the planet. (I don't know if that Michael Jackson thing sold more.)
The song was remarkable for me at the time because different vocalists sang at different times. It was interesting to pick out which was Bono, which was Sting, which was Boy George.
Paul Weller was there--introduced himself as "from the Style Council," which he was--but he didn't rate a solo. This despite the fact that when he was with The Jam, he wrote and recorded the first single ever to debut at #1 in Britain: "Going Underground." (There's a story behind that, but...)

I actually have the Band Aid LP. I love the song, "Do They Know It's Christmas". At the time it first came out I was a huge Spandau Ballet fan, and I used to play a silly game called, "Spot the Members of Spandau Ballet". I used to try to spot Tony Hadley, Gary Kemp, Martin Kemp, John Keeble and Steve Norman. I only spotted Gary and Tony (since Tony did a solo part in it). Oh I was a very silly kid back then. :p
I wonder if that Band Aid LP is worth anything these days? It's probably pretty hard to find.
Heck, I couldn't spot Spandau Ballet if they were standing next to me. :D I guess I could if they were all wearing 3 piece suits and had microphones ;)

Band Aid, the day everthing went wrong (for me)
I was visting my cousin, so I couldn't watch all artist on Band Aid, so I looked in the TV-magazine which time when Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw and more should preform and I sat my clock on alarm for H.J whom was first.
All starttimes (?) in the magazine was wrong (1 hour). So I missed all artists. Realy Funny. NOT! :(

I may actually have parts of Live Aid on videotape in my collection. I used to frequently videotape any concert event on TV (like the MTV Saturday Night concerts, weren't those kickass?) and I'm sure I have some LiveAid highlights on one of my tapes. Speaking of Duran Duran, it's going to be great to see the original five back together next year with the 20th Anniversary CD & tour. Hope they manage to play Colorado

Yes, the original Duran Duran will be great to see in concert! I had the chance to see Duran Duran (not all original members) on New Year's Eve in Orlando this year (or would that be last year?) :D I also had the chance to meet one of our Moderators Ladyofthe80s (http://www.i80s.com/ubb_cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_profile&u=00000057) there (she told me about the concert). It was great, but cold!
I wonder if the Live Aid video is available to purchase somewhere? I checked Amazon, but no dice. Maybe you can make some bootleg copies Phil. :)
Zalve: Sorry to hear you missed your favorite Live Aid artists. :(
There have been rumors of a Live Aid 2 to be held at the Millenium Dome in London sometime in October. Supposedly, Midge Ure from Ultravox is organizing the event and it is to raise money for children with AIDS. Would be wonderful if its true... plus, I'm going to be in London in October!!! :D

Have you heard what other bands might be playing? That would be so great if they did do a Live Aid 2. Are you going over to London for business, pleasure or both?
I haven't heard anything more about the schedule or if the Live Aid 2 event will even happen or not! It might just be an unsubstantiated rumor. I will be in Great Britain and Ireland for two weeks in October, mostly for relaxation but I intend to take care of some book business while there... :)

That's too bad it may only be a rumor. Would be great if Live Aid 2 happened was a reality!
Be sure to take lots of pictures on your vacation Michael, I know I'd love to see some of them! :)

I remember Live Aid very well. I tried so hard to get a ticket for Wembley but they were sold out PDQ.
A week after the concert, me and a friend went to Corfu, Greece on holiday and in almost every bar there was the Live Aid concert on tape being shown there. We could literally go from bar to bar and know what band would be playing next....it was brilliant.
My favourite was Status Quo singing Rocking all over the world......quite fitting. And I also loved it when Phil Collins played at Wembley, then went to Philadelphia(I think) on Concorde to play at the Live Aid concert there :)
And I also remember getting so emotional when the Cars played Drive. And Bob Geldof was getting upset too as he swore on camera. I have it on a tape in the UK somewhere....along with the video of the Band Aid Christmas song. I never tired of seeing those videos.
Sorry to be so long winded......don`t want to bore you all with my first few posts :)

My uncle recorded the whole transmission from MTV. It was 16 years ago so I don't know the condition of the tapes.
I bought the 3 day US Fest 83 from e-Bay. It is awesome. The recording is great..
Those were the days........ :D

Oh you all have really brought back great memories for me tonight. I rememeber sitting in front of my TV all day long. I wouldn't move. My boyfriend was so angry with me but I just knew I was part of history and the groups were so diverse and amazing. Ultravox and Queen were my two faves. And then in 1995 when I was pregnant with my daughter MTV replays the whole thing for the 10th anniversary and I sat all day long again and my hubbie freaked. These men had no concept of history or even decent music....lol...considering they both listened to ...oh well I don't want to step on any of your toes so I won't say. Live-Aid Rules!!!!

What year was Live Aid? '85 wasn't it? I'm tryin to figure out how old I was when it was on. I remember seeing bits of it and being really excited that Boy George was on TV! I have a "Smash Hits" Yearbook, with photos and interviews on Live Aid in it.

MDC - I'm so jealous you're going to England! I went last December and absolutely loved it over there (didn't want to come back).
It was great to meet Adam and Marilou at the New Year's Eve Duran Duran concert. He is right that it was quite cold. Real shock to the system. The things I do for that band!
I think Live Aid was in 1985, though my memory could be faulty there. Would be neat if there was a Live Aid II, especially if DD was involved.
I was able to buy the 12" Japanese version of "Do they know it's Christmas" from eil.com (I think it was under $20).
