The former lead singer of 80s Scottish rock band Big Country, Stuart Adamson, was found dead at his hotel room in Hawaii at the age of 42. Big Country are primarily known in the US for their Top 10 hit from 1984, "In a Big Country", and Stuart also sang on the Band-Aid classic, "Do They Know It's Christmas?", also from 1984. Stuart was reported missing from his adopted hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, by family and friends last week. He apparently had been suffering from alcohol and drug problems for a number of years. Very sad news, indeed...

Oh no!
I can't beleive it! I was at a new '80's Club in Clearwater on Saturday night, and they played, "In A Big Country", and I thought to myself; I wonder whatever happened to them!!
OMG! I cannot beleive that! How sad... :(

I was so sad to hear this. I loved Big Country. Shazzah came into my classroom Monday and told me. I was in complete shock.

Here is what the Honolulu Advertiser published this morning:

Rock star's suicide linked to alcohol

Scottish rock star Stuart Adamson had a blood-alcohol level of 0.279 percent when he committed suicide last month in a hotel room near Honolulu International Airport, an autopsy found.

For comparison, that is more than three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent established for automobile drivers.

The autopsy on Adamson, listed under his legal name William Stuart Adamson, said he died of asphyxiation from strangulation, said Dr. Kanthi von Guenthner of the city medical examiner's office.

Adamson, lead singer of the 1980s band Big Country, was found Dec. 16 in his room at the Best Western Plaza Hotel near the airport. He had hung himself in the closet.

That was so very sad to read. It's just one of those senseless deaths. I hope that Stuart has found peace at least... Thanks for posting the article, DJ... <img src="graemlins/frown2.gif" border="0" alt="[Frown 2]" />
