Man, it sucks being in the middle of the Pacific!
O.K., I'm being sincere here so don't bite my head off. I've got a question concerning "metal" bands. At what point do you hang up the leather and say I'm too old? The reason I ask is because it seems to me that a lot of bands (Dokken, White Snake, Dio to name a few) are still touring and playing in clubs. I know a few of the bands (Def Leppard and Bon Jovi) are still popular, but most of these bands are playing small clubs. Do they need the money or do they love playing live.
I never considered Def Leppard or Bon Jovi "metal" bands. I always thought of them as a sort of "heavy pop". They're not confined to any one genre. They just ROCK!! Also, their music has spanned the generations. Not only do I have a front row ticket to DL, so do each of my kids who asked me to take them. One of Steff's favorite songs is, "Pour Some Sugar On Me", and because of that song, she has come to love many more DL songs. She is 14 years old. :) She is also a big Bon Jovi fan. They're still releasing great music.
Jen, I agree that Def Leppard and Bon Jovi are "pop", but I was curious at what point will they become The Rolling Stones. The Stones are laughable and have been for quite awhile. They are still making tons of money but I would think that pride and integrity would finally take over. Also, I noticed that Bon Jovi had a cd that was made for Target stores and they play at half-time shows. Whats next Las Vegas opening for Tom Jones? So back to my original question, at what point as a fan would you stop going to see them? I like to see bands when they are at their prime. I usually skip bands as they get older because their shows decline. Just my preference though. BTW, I have seen my fair share of 80's bands the last couple of years, but it was mainly for ****s and grins. Not to see a great perfomance. BTW, I hope this thread doesn't offend you. No disrespect is meant. :D
I'm not offended, Leonard. I understand what you're trying to say. I guess I would stop going to see those bands when their music really starts to suck. I love X though. It's a great CD.
Gotcha! I tend to be a bit brash sometimes and I didn't want or mean to come off as such. Enjoy the show and don't go backstage. :D

I think that I will stop seeing bands when they stop playing.
The Stones have definitely become a joke.
We did a program for a corporation, and we hired The Temptations. The people just loved it and enjoyed the show.
We did another one where we hired KC & the Sunshine Band and everyone loved that too.
In March I'm doing a program in LasVegas where we hired Kool & the Gang...
I guess as long as they keep playing people will want to see them.
I'm hoping Def Leppard will come here. Bon Jovi is playing here in a few weeks too.
I saw KC and the Sunshine Band in 2000 at the Grand Casino Avoyelles in Marksville, LA. They were awesome. Sounded the same and everything. I enjoyed it very much. The only detraction was that I had seen Aerosmith the night before. They can't be compared.
I got my Def Leppard tix in the mail today. I'm sooooooo happy!!! :D

Hey Adam,
Def Leppard will be playing at "Livestock" on April 26th. The next closest place would be West Palm Beach.
Not sure if I want to go to Livestock! I think I'm getting too old to party like that!

Def Leppard is one of the few bands out performing today that I would give my eyeteeth to see!!! Their shows rock!!!
Thanks for the info Bambi! West Palm isn't too far away from me, but it might be too early still to take off and see a concert. I may have to pass this time around... I'm sure they will be back again. I hope. :)
