As Johnny Slash would say in Square Pegs, totally! So we know there are two different sub categories of New Wave:

New Romantic(Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet)
True New Wave(Adam Ant, Romeo Void, Lena Lovich, Ultravox etc.)

And totally amazing, indeed.

Are there only two? One could probably make an argument for other subgenres...

i.e., Synthpop, Gothic, Brit Pop, Modern Rock

... and one could argue that they're not subgenres but their own genres. :)
