I have two that I can narrow it down to:
1985: I had left home, moved to the big city and got my first job and was FREE!!!!!!! That was a really fun year full of new experiences.
1987: I moved into a place with an old High School friend. It was the first time I was in a place of my own so to speak. Before I had always been boarding. It was heavy going financially, but we had the time of our lives.

First real boyfriend.

I was just thinking about what was going on in my life 15 years ago this summer. I had just graduated high school and was about to enter college. 1988 was the best year for me. I had long hair all around my head. I had just finished a somewhat successful soccer and football career in high school so I was in really good shape. Spent the time at the beach, chasing the waves and dreams (I would sit on the beach and dream up ideas for videos for my favorite songs). Believe it or not, I could have cared less for chasing the women. Before it was tabloid news, I was infatuated with a teacher I had in school- and she admitted the same. We NEVER got physical, but would spend long nites talking on the phone about all kinds of things, and I don't mean sexual, either. Listening to my metal music, trying to keep a garage band together. This is beginning to sound somewhat like a Bryan Adams song...
Good stuff guys! I need a little time to think of my best year of the 80s. I just wanted to let you guys know I really have enjoyed reading your responses to this thread so far.

I would have to choose 1984 as the pivotal year of the 80s. It was the year that music and pop culture exploded and there was so much diversity in the music scene. Reagan was in the White House and the world seemed as if it was going to be okay, albeit briefly! All-in-all, it was one hell of a year and George Orwell was off... by about fifteen years!

I'd have to say 1982: it was my last year of high school, the year I started college and moved away from home. I made lots of new friends, started working on-campus, went to a dorm party now and then.

Well let's see, I'd have to say '89, cuz that's the only 80s year that I remember because I was 2, and even that's just small bits and pieces. During my childhood I basically grew up on 80's stuff: the Batman movie, MJ's Thriller album, etc. So the 80's pop culture and attitude lie deep in my roots, if you know what I mean.

1987 -- that's when I graduated High School and started college. Hair Metal was in it's prime, and I went to some GREAT concerts that year, most notably Motley Crue and Whitesnake (I remember MOST of it).
