I work at a small private school so I'm around kids daily. Yesterday I was working with a group doing english when the subject of slang came up. I asked them if they knew what I meant when I said,"I'm taking some 'g's' and heading to the BK Lounge to get some grub before going over to my homey's crib". The looks of confusion were great. They figured it out (can you?) I then tried to recollect some of the terms or sayings we used in the 80s...man it was hard! Can you remember any?

I know some fer shur, dude!
I remember 'back n da day' i was like in school, and i was in love with this 'bodacious' babe. There were many times in my head I used to drift out into space and dream of 'boinking' her a million times. She never really 'dug' me, though. Till the day she told me hello, I totally 'tripped' out. Ah that was 'awesome'.

Well I can give you some slang, but it's mainly New Zealand slang, so you may get totally confused and maybe even think that I'm saying something that should be in the Back Room, but I thought "Bugger it", I'll "Be blowed" if I'm gonna worry about that, because I figured "she'll be right" it would be a "hard case", everyone will think it's funny, so I won't get in "the sh1t" for it. So that's pretty "choice". Now it's time to go and have a few drinks and get "pissed".

That's pretty similar to Australian slang, Recker. Which is pretty "grouse". Dontcha "reckon"? Most of the really bad 80's slang I can think of has to do with things of a sexual nature, so I won't post them here!

"You're not wrong". I think we do "nick" a fair bit from you Aussies and also the Brits. I'll "suss it out" one day. But I'd be "rapped" if some of our slang was original.

I saw this fine dude chillin' in his totally *****in camaro the other day. He was like Hi, and I was like hi back. He asked me out and we went for some tubular burgers at Mickey D's.

Oh, yea. I do it just to see the look on their faces. I get them to figure it out before I tell them what I said.
That's cool... What's the age group?

The ages are 7-18, but I usually work with the older kids. There is one student who wants to talk about the 80s all the time. I keep reminding her that she was not there...and that I was already 15 years old when she was born!! Its fun. Slang these days is more grounded on enunciation rather than the metephors we tend to use (that sounds like the subject of a thesis paper!).
