View Full Version : 80's movies, yet NOT 80's movies
I'm just wondering about everyone's take on recent movies that are set in the 80's. For example: "The Wedding Singer". I watched closely for discrepancies and didn't find any to speak of. It was set in '85, which was the year I graduated from HS. The entire movie had me laughing so hard I almost wet myself. I could remember the fashions, the hair, and the music (always the music)....

I just saw the Wedding Singer again, and unfortunately it wasn't as funny as the first time. But they were really good at getting the fashion right. Sometimes when they do movies set in a past time period they try to make people look better than they actually did. The limo driver guy had this outfit on that was perfect, acid washed peg legged jeans and this loud shirt. It looked AWFUL, but that's how people dressed. It was perfect. I loved the Madonna girl. I totally wanted to dress like that, but I was a good girl, ya know ;)

"200 Cigarettes" was pretty true to life.
"The Wedding Singer" was okay, I didn't think that Drew's hairdo was very '80s though.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen "200 Cigarettes", although I've heard it's pretty good. I don't have time to go to the theater very often. Usually it's spur of the moment and it's whatever's playing at the time. Luckily, "The Wedding Singer" was at the "Dollar Theater" last time. (That should tell ya'll how long ago that was) I teach during the day and wait tables at night, so I seldom have time for my family, much less movies. "The Wedding Singer" came with my DVD player. ;)
I'd like to see 200 Cigarettes. The trailer looked really good. The Wedding Singer was hilarious, but you're right bambi, Drew didn't look as 80s as the rest. Have you guys heard of American Psycho (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004U8H4/i80scom)? My wife saw this movie but didn't like it. Then again, she doesn't really like scary movies. Sounds like this movie is set in the 80s, and gives you an interesting look into a mind of a killer.
American Psycho was probably the most psychotic movie I have ever seen. The plot was really distorted and difficult to follow if you blinked your eyes. Just thinking of it gives me chills.

I honestly didn't care for '200 Cigarettes' other than liking the music.
I liked Wedding Singer, though. Maybe because of the love story component and getting to see Billy Idol as a guest star.

I loved Adam Sandler's hair in The Wedding Singer! :D
I wonder why Drew didn't look as 80's as the others? Maybe they didn't want the leading lady to look 'trashy' or 'ugly' (impossible for Drew!)

200 cigerettes was only good because it was in the 80s and had Christina Ricci and Courtney Love. Without that, the movie was pretty bad.
American Pyscho depicted the 80s perfectly. I love those vintage cordless phones!! God, they were so huge! *lol*

Anyone ever see "Edge of Seventeen?" It takes place in the 80s and it's about a new wave boy who slowly comes out of the closet during his teenage years. I love this film and it depicts the 80s new wave scene to a T. The soundtrack is great too....Flock of Seagulls, The Eurythmics, Bronksi Beat.
I love the scene when they're in his bedroom listening to "Wishing (I had A Photograph Of You)" by Flock of Seagulls.
Oh..and one more plus...the guy is a total cutie! <img border="0" alt="[Love]" title="" src="graemlins/love.gif" />

Well, I saw a movie last Christmas featuring some 80s themes. It was called "Not Another Teen Movie" which basicily cut up teen movies such as "Pretty In Pink" from the 80s. I really enjoyed it a lot!! :D

The Wedding Singer- A bad, discomforting comedy, but a very good and charming romance and the soundtrack kicks.
American Psycho and Donnie Darko were also brilliant films, and Red Dragon was a worthy remake of Manhunter (I think its the only 80's movie that's actually been remade)
