The eighties was truly the dawn of personal computers at home, along with numerous consols for games. Did you have any of these at home, and what was your favorite?

I can vaguely remember playing the original PONG on an Atari-console, but besides that, I was a devoted Commodre-fan, first putting my trust in the spectacular Commodre 64 computer and later on the immense popular Commodre Amiga 500. Boy, did I spent a lot of time with these two magnificent pieces of hardware :D

I don't think we could afford a Commador 64 when they came out. I only had the Atari, but I had lots of games and lots of my friends always wanted to play. Ahhh... Those were the days. :)

The C64 obviously ruled! Not many of the consoles popular in the US and Japan made it big over here. Stuff like the ColecoVision and Atari 2600 didn't really have that much an impact.
Basically you were either a C64 or an Zx Spectrum owner.
Even later systems like the SNES or Megadrive couldn't compete with the likes of Amiga 500 in terms of sold units. Apparantly we prefered home computers as opposed to stand-alone consoles.

I seem to remember that one of Commodore's strongest competitors "over here" was Amstrad. Another kid on the street where I lived had this Amstrad computer with a cassette player integrated into the black keyboard. A cool-looking computer, but onfortunately for him, everybody else around had aC64, so we couldn't share any games with him :(

Actually, my brother-in-law still has a fully working C64, complete with cartridges and a cassette player... wonder if it's worth anything nowadays.

Oh yes, the Armstrad was quite popular as well.
I didn't own any of them actually. I usually played at friends houses back then. In fact, I didn't even get a computer until early 1993!

In the 80s sharing and copying games off one another seemed to be the order of the day. Oddly, the games industry (unlike today) didn't seem to take any notice.

We had an Atari too. Remember Dungeon? I think it was called that.. Anyway, you were a square and would grab you sword and go through a maze and find the different colored castles where you would defeat the dragon and get the next castle key and a gold cup or something. lol I can't believe we were only a square yet it was so cool at the time! I also loved Pitfall.

My friend had Coleco Vision - I didn't care for that as much except for Donkey Kong and Dig Dug..

We had what the poor folks could muster up for a video game: Odyssey! It had ripoffs of Pac-Man (KC Munchkin) and Space Invaders, among others. Then...a kid on the block got Intellivision! It was difficult to grasp, seeing it had numbers to push and a rotating pad on the bottom that did not offer complete control of the players, so after a while we got frustrated with it and ended up outside making up our own games and playing the real games. So, I suppose I'm saying Intellivison inspired us to stop playing video games and go play outside!
